The Causeway, part of London Road, St Ives

Close up to the Causeway Arches at the town end of London Road, St Ives.

Alternative view from the Meadow Footpath
The Causeway is a raised section of London Road to provide an alternative route for flood water from the River Great Ouse. The brick section of the causeway, in the extreme right of the two photos, marks where the old bridge under which the railway between St Ives and Huntingdon once passed. This area is about to undergo significant change with the construction of a new flood alleviation scheme (Autumn 2005).
