The Hursting Stone

The Hursting Stone, the base of an ancient wayside cross and location of the Hurstingstone Hundred Court

A description of The Hursting Stone

The Hursting Stone shown in the picture above is the base of a wayside cross which was once located on the roadside between Old Hurst and St Ives. When the runway at RAF Wyton was lengthened although the cross itself had long vanished the base was brought to the Norris Museum.

Its historical importance being that the Hursting Stone also represented the meeting place of the old Hundred Law Court in the days when these courts used to meet in the open at locations marked with crosses or boundary markers.
