Where the railway crossed the New Bridges

Where the railway crossed the New Bridges in St Ives, Cambridgshire

A description of Where the railway crossed the New Bridges

The variations in brickwork clearly indicate where the railway crossed the New Bridges of London Road, St Ives. The railway was carried on an embankment at this point roughly level with the current road surface and it crossed London Road as a level-crossing. When the railway, level crossing and embankment were removed the viaduct carrying the road required this new section to be built to carry the road. This photograph is of the eastern side of the viaduct and was taken from Wilhorn Meadow.

As with the other pictures of the New Bridges viaduct deterioration of the brickwork is very evident especailly that of the older sections.
