The Friends of the Norris Museum support the work of the Museum in many different ways. Members raise funds to make improvements in the Museum facilities - not only with social events but by a vigorous programme of publications. A number of books on local history have been published by the Friends and a regular annual money spinner is our Christmas card: a new card is published each year showing a different local scene.

Members also work in the Museum to enhance the service it can offer to the public. Some help to open it to the public, so that opening can take place seven days a week in the busy summer season (May to September inclusive, when the Museum is open 10.00-1.00 and 2.00 to 5.00 each day except Sunday mornings).

Other members work with school parties to provide workshop sessions, when children can learn by actually handling and working with objects from the Museum collections. Some members are improving the Museum catalogues - the sort of laborious back-room work that underpins the more public activities.

All in all the Friends of the Norris provide the kind of help and support that allows a small town museum to do some of the things that larger big-city galleries take for granted.

Add to that the social events that include an annual barbecue in the Museum garden and a Christmas party in the Museum itself, as well as visits to places of interest, and you have the recipe for an enjoyable programme that genuinely helps to make a difference to the service the Norris Museum can provide.
