Being the place where a saint lived was not to bad for Slepe. A priory was quickly established over the spot where the body was originally buried.
The discovery of the body and it's subsequent acceptance as being that of St. Ivo, ended the confusion on what to call the place. By know it was know as Slepe, Slepa and numerous other derivatives. It now had a new name St. Ives.
As the number of pilgrims increased a better way to get across the river was urgently needed and a wooden bridge was built. Inn's and other businesses grew up rapidly around the bridge and by the 1100's the town had been granted a charter to hold a market. That market still operates today 900 years later. The market quickly grew in size and importance and became on of the largest in the whole of the country (it still is). By the 1400's the old wooden bridge was replaced by a stone one which still stands today
