The Welcome Chinese Restaurant has been owned and Managed by San and Jasmine Cheung, since November 2005. The restaurant specialises in Cantonese and Malaysian cuisine. It also has Thai and Szechuan dishes as well.
San (Head Chef) and Jasmine (Restaurant Manager) have created an "oasis" of exceptional Cantonese and Oriental Cuisine here in rural Cambridgeshire, which surprises everyone in terms of both its excellent quality and reasonable cost. Since 2005, the Welcome has attracted and maintained a large and regular customer base from around St. Ives and beyond, gaining it a reputation as one of the best Chinese Restaurants in the East of England.
The Welcome Chinese Restaurant is situated in East Street, (which is immediately behind Barclays Bank, Market Hill) in the centre of St. Ives. You will know your there, when you see the Two Marble Lions guarding the entrance and at night the warm and welcoming illuminated red awnings above the windows and entrance.
On entering the restaurant, the attractive and calming fish tank and exquisitely set and elegant tables immediately suggest that this Chinese Restaurant is in a class above the rest. Dark wood chop sticks with marble dragons inset are encased in a neatly designed sleeve (matching the table runner) and placed on a china stool; silk pink table liners, embroidered with gold were laid upon crisp white linen. The quality of the decor is matched by the efficient, courteous and friendly service of all the staff. The restaurant is spacious with a relaxing and sophisticated ambience. Tables of all sizes are available from a cosy romantic table for two, to large round tables for large parties with an occasion to celebrate. It has the capacity to seat up to 100 people.
Overall, the Welcome can be described as an upper class, high quality Chinese Restaurant with delicious quality food and excellent service. It is a family run business where the owner and head chef has 20 years of experience in Cantonese food. The restaurant can cater for parties for any occasion. Party groups should book in advance.

The Welcome Restaurant offers a tasty range of Appetizers to prepare your palate for your main courses and, if you are eating in our restaurant, to pass the time whilst we are freshly preparing the rest of your meal.
Bean curd, known as Tofu in Japan, originated in China many centuries ago. It is made from Soy Milk and is low in both calories and fat. Bean curd normally has very little flavour of its own and therefore is usually served with something that has flavour is abundance like Black Bean Sauce or Chilli. It is a very popular addition to food everywhere is Asia.
The Welcome Restaurant uses high quality beef serverd as either fillet steaks, sliced or shredded beef in a range of tempting dishes.
As most Chinese soups are much lighter than British soups they are as much in demand in the summer months as they are in the depths of winter.
If you are really hungry and want to treat yourself then why not add something special to your meal. The cripsy duck is a real favourite!
Lamb is a very tasty meat in its own right but when cooked Chinese style it produces a really excellent dish. Why not try some lamb from the Welcoem Restaurant.
Chinese noodles are also another main ingredient to Chinese cuisine. There are many different types of noodle made from different flours and starches, the common ones are made from either Wheat or Rice flour.
Vermicelli is usually made from Rice Flour and are whiter and very thin in comparison to the thicker, creamy coloured Wheat Noodles.
Pork is another mainstay of Chinese cuisine, many rural households in China keep pigs and they form an important part of the agricultural economy. The Welcoem Restaurant offers a small selection of Pork Dishes that will appeal to the British palate. Few can resist Sweet and Sour Pork Hong Kong style!
Along with pork, fresh poultry is one of the mainstays of Chinese cuisine and the Welcome Restaurant tempts you with over 30 different poutlry dishes some hot and spicy and some sweet and sour.

Rice is one of the staple foods of Asia and the Welcome Restaurant offers you a selection if rice dishes ranging from simple boiled rice through to their House Special Fired Rice, that is almost a meal in itself.
Also included in this section is one of the British staple foods for those who would prefer chips with theit take-away.
With an enourmous coastline and many great rivers, Seafood or rather fish dishes, are an important element of Chinese cuisine. The Welcome Restaurant follows this tradition and offers a huge range of seafood dishes which if you are eating in the reatuarant includes Sea Bass and Dover Sole (when available) in addition to the old favourites like Scallops or King Prawns.
If you cannot decide on what to order the Welcome Restaurant chef has put together some set meal ideas that should appeal to you. The Set Meals are priced PER PERSON and are available for TWO PERSONS or more.
Set meals served to eat within the Welcome Chinese Restaurant include Chinese Tea or Coffee to complete your meal.
Our Sizzling Dishes are prepared in our kitchen and served to your table on a really hot platter so that they sizzle when served for a really mouth watering experience. We do offer some of our sizzling dishes to you on our Take Away menu but although they are prepared in exactly the same way the will not actually be sizzling when you get them but they will taste very much the same.
All these dishes are based on and prepared with fresh vegetables.
