The Mayor of St. Ives, Councillor Jean Chandler, was host of the "Millennium Ball" at the Burgess Hall on Friday 3rd March 2000 in aid of the local branch of the British Heart Foundation. Before a superb dinner the guests were treated to a spectacular display of Irish Dancing by the children of the Masterson School of Irish Dancing.
After dinner and the toast to Her Majesty the Queen, entertainment was provided by

During the evening both a Tombola and Raffle were held, the proceeds of which and the surplus from the ticket sales are to go to the British Heart Foundation and are expected to exceed £1000. Below a photograph of the Mayor, Councillor Jean Chandler, drawing the first ticket.
As you can see by the smile she was exceedingly pleased with what turned out to be a very successful evening that has formed part of the many events organised by the Town Council to mark the Millennium. The next big entertainment is the Millennium Carnival and should involve the whole town. |
Guests came from all over the town to enjoy this event and many of the local businesses and civic authorities were represented. The Mayor would like to express her thanks to the everyone for their support and special thanks to the staff of the Burgess Hall for their work and hospitality. |
