The centre piece of the Victorian Street Fair in St Ives was without doubt the fantastic Steam Galloper. Its presence in the town like a time-machine transporting us all back to an earlier era. The smell of smoke, steam and oil along with the hoots of the whistle and music from the barrel organ electrified the atmosphere.

No apologies for the large format picture below as it captures the smiles on the faces of the children who were transported back in time. Though the Trainers and Padded Jackets seem to be somewhat out of context with the painted horses.

Stalls and entertainments filled both Market Hill and Bridge Street and at times the crowds were shoulder to shoulder. Even though, as the camera lens below testifies, there was some occasional drizzle it did not seem to dampen the spirits.

A great time was had by all. Well done to those who organised the whole affair.
