Most of the streets around the town centre of St Ives are very narrow, reflecting the towns ancient origins, and consequently have either very limited parking or are NO PARKING ZONES (Double Yellow Lines!). There are however 3 main Car Parks on each of the principle access roads, all of which are 'long stay' for around 70p (Expect to pay more the closer to the town centre you get) as the 70p will only buy you a few hours in the 'short stay' car park near the Bus Station. All the Car Parks are covered by Closed Circuit TV as is the town centre and surrounding area.
There are reserved spaces for the disabled in all the car parks plus a limited number in Market Hill, the town centre.
On ALL Mondays there is a full Market in Market Hill and the area is closed to most traffic. There is certainly no parking in Market Hill. The market traders vehicles also occupy the Short Stay Car Park, so be prepared to walk a little further.
Each Friday there is a limited market in the town centre which also causes limited parking in the town centre, you will also find Market Traders vehicles in the Short Stay Car Park.
Every Bank Holiday Monday the ENTIRE TOWN CENTRE including Market Hill, The Broadway, Station Road, The Sheep Market AND the Bus Station are taken over by Market Stalls. Parking is EXTREMELY limited near the town centre. Best to try the Long Stay Car Parks or some of the side streets around the town. Many folks will arrive early to 'get a spot' so the later you arrive the further you'll walk.
The same restrictions apply for a Bank Holiday in Michaelmas week but this time the town is occupied by one of the last remaining true street fairs in the United Kingdom. This fair has been going on every year since King John was on the throne in the early 13th Century so we're quite used to it.
