St Ives is very well connected and in a prime position for may forms of transport, sitting astride the River Great Ouse. It's ancient market grew to staggering proportions in the early to middle ages drawing traders from all over Europe. Today it is very close to the A14 a major east-west thoroughfare and within 15 minutes of the A1, the Great North Road.

New developments at Alconbury, a former USAF base, being converted into a massive distribution and warehousing centre and the long awaited upgrading of the A14 between the A1(M) and M11 will only improve communications in the area already stressed because of its strategic position.
